New year, new faces, new fun. That’s what we always look forward to whenever a new year comes around as professional makeup artists. However, it’s not all fluffy clouds, happy beauties, and all that good stuff. As a sole proprietor, as most of you are as MUAs, there’s a depressing reality at the beginning of every year, and that comes in the form of filing taxes. Yes, as US citizens, we have to file taxes every year anyways, but as entrepreneurs as well, I know that filling out the Schedule C is not the fun part of the makeup business.
There are a lot of airbrush kits out there, so much so that it’s difficult to figure out what you should and shouldn’t use. The various tech specs aren’t detailed enough to tell you as a MUA or consumer what is worth your while to purchase. We want to narrow down your search for you, and help you identify what type of airbrush you need.
As a professional makeup artist myself, I own 4 airbrush kits. That may sound like overkill, but for me, each airbrush serves it’s individual purpose for each level of makeup artistry, so I still have them all. For the purposes of this post, I will review the 4 that I own. I will have future posts to review other airbrush systems as we progress.
“What’s the best way to apply liquid foundation?”
We get this question or topic all the time in our makeup classes. So I decided it’s best to write an article for everyone to reference, as well as make a video later on to demonstrate. When it comes to liquid foundation, there’s really 4 ways that everyone uses to apply with (NOTE: I don’t consider airbrushing in the 4 methods because it’s more of something that professionals use. I’m mainly going with the 4 most common methods). However, not all methods are created equal, so today, we’re going to go over each and the pros and cons.
Name: Kara & Dipal
Wedding Date: 10/16/2014 (Also Kara’s birthday!)
Wedding Location: Groezinger Estate House at Villagio Inn & Spa in Yountville, California
Photographer: Andy Sandy
Kara and Dipal wed in October, and their engagement story was a thing of beauty. During their trip to the lake at Niagara, the couple decided to go for a walk. They had stopped in front of a fountain, when Dipal suggested they make a wish. He pulled out a couple of coins and they made their respective wishes. A little while later, Dipal asked Kara what she wished for.
Kara replied “for us to be together forever. What was your wish?”
Dipal replied “that you will say yes”. And he got down on one knee to propose.
What a touching moment! Can you imagine the scenic backdrop of Niagara behind you as your husband-to-be asks for you to marry him? What a great feeling it must have been for Kara!
Kara explained that the reason she ended up choosing The Makeup Movement because she felt very comfortable with Annie’s expertise in Asian bridal makeup. She really wanted to go with a natural and classic look, but maintaining the elegance factor, which Annie was able to accomplish during the trial. Kara also pointed out that the hair worked perfectly for her, because it allowed the wedding dress to be a focal point due to the intricate detail of the design.
When we asked Kara for her tips for future brides, it was quite simple: Pinterest! This seems to be the most resounding plug for the social media collage platform, where almost all of our brides have created boards for themselves for inspiration. So get pinning!
